Name of Tehran:

With regard to nomenclature and etymology of name of Tehran, there were different points of view. Some researchers used suffix of "Ran" as meant to slope. Shemiran and Tehran have called upstream and downstream. Some people have known Tehran as transformed shape of "Tehram" which is meant tropical region on the contrary to Shemiram or Shemiran which is meant cold region. Also, some people are of the opinion that today Tehran seemed deep among surrounding mountains.
It seems that today Tehran was previously called "Tah Ran".
Sceneries and Must-See Sites:
Shams ol-Emarah, Toghrol Castle, Golestan Palace, portal of National Garden, Saheb Gharaniyah, Darvazeh Dowlat, Tehran Bazaar, Bibi Shahr Banou, etc. are considered as sceneries and must-see sites of Tehran which are open to public.
Museums of Iran-e Bastan, Islamic Iran, Anthropology, carpet and contemporary art museums, handicrafts, Abgineh, library and Malek Museum, Zoo (wildlife), are considered as other sceneries of Tehran. History, monetary and chronology museums are also regarded as other sightseeing and sceneries of Tehran.
Also, in religious point of view, mausoleums of Hazrat Abdal Azim in Shahre Rey, Imamzadeh Saleh of Tajrish, Imamzadeh Davood in northern Kan area, and also tomb of Ayatollah Imam Khomeini (RA), founding father of the Islamic Revolution, have attracted attention of many visitors and domestic and foreign pilgrims.
Treed rout of Vali-e Asr Ave. (Parkway) is of the longest streets of Tehran and is considered as one of scenery and must-see thoroughfares of metropolis Tehran.
For this reason, the Municipality of Tehran embarked on renovation and rehabilitation of pavements and sidewalks of this avenue in 2007, aimed at walking easily. |
