 Tehran is the largest city and capital of Iran, which is home to 7,797,520 people. The city is home to 13,413,348 people with considering its surrounding districts.
Iran administrative structure has been concentrated at Tehran. Tehran city has been divided into 12 districts. Milad Tower and Azadi Square are symbol of metropolis Tehran.
Geographical Situation of Tehran:
In geographical point of view, metropolis Tehran is located at 51 degrees and 08 minutes to 51 degrees and 37 minutes of east longitude and 35 degrees and 34 minutes to 35 degrees and 50 minutes of northern latitude.
Its height in north, center and south is measured 1700, 1200 and 1100 meters respectively.
Tehran is located on a wide area between two mountains and desert and at southern outskirts of Alborz mountain range.
The city is bounded on the south to Rey and Bibi Shahr Banou mountains and also leveled plains of Shahriyar and Varamin and on the north, it has been fenced with the mountainous area. Tehran can be divided into three natural regions:
- Tehran Northern Mountainous Area: Tochal is the highest peak of this mountainous area, measuring 3933 meters, which is viewed across the city.
- Alborz Outskirts: Alborz outskirt is bounded to hilly areas, and Evin valleys, Darakeh, Niavaran, Hesarak and Souhanak.
- Plain: Third region is the plain which large portion of Tehran land area has been laid on it. The plain enjoys mild gradient with northern and southern direction.
In climatic point of view, except north mountainous outskirts which is humid and moderate, Tehran is completely warm and dry. Its maximum and minimum registered temperature stood at 38.7 and -15 respectively. Its average annual temperature has been registered approx. 18 degrees of centigrade.
Cold season in Tehran starts usually as of Azar month while Mordad month comprises the highest temperature in whole season of the year.
Tehran surrounding mountains will obstacle penetration of various air masses.for this reason, Tehran climatic situation enjoys high calmness and peace as compared with its neighboring regions.
In other words, location of mountain from north direction and desert marginal plains from south and southeast direction will cause a tangible and slow current of air from plain to mountain during day and also from mountain to the plain during night.
